View Full Version : M5 vs The BeaSSt (long post)
this friday night i woke up at 1am, and decided not to sleep no more :)
so i went crusing all by myself.
and on ocean prkwy(pretty big street here in brooklyn) a bmw m5 lined up with me it was about 3 in the morning.
i looked inside the beemer, and saw a 30-40 year old guy in a white shirt, damn i though to myself this guy ain't going to race his 5th series beemer. but i figured i'd floor it anywayz.
so the light goes green and i floor it, with some burnout i start taking off, when the guy notices he downshifts and i see the beemer jump a hood ahead of me, then he shifts again and the car jumps some more just enough for me to see his tail lights, where i notice the M emblem.
but my beasst ain't going down either, i was keeping up with the guy, i lower my eyes to the speedo and notice that it says 79, and there is a red light ahead, so we both slow down i rolled down my window, and the following came out of me : " Holy sh*t man, that an M5?!!!" the guy shook his head, and i gave him thumbs up said that he is the man and took off.
racing that m5 was awsome, the beasst was keeping up with it without that many complications, and the beemer could only jump ahead due to tha manual tranny, and the guy was shifting it pretty well too, not like that cobra guy.
thats this week's racing story of mine :D
anything happened to yous?
:D :D
Yeah, my friend had an M5... the stick help ALOT!
M5 was later a lemon dude to bad electrical:(

How much did he beat you by?? The M5 should of walked all over you man,was it E34 M5 or E39 ??
whats the difference between e34 and e39? :)
he didn't really walk all over me he kept on jumping ahead by like half a hood everytime he shifted(freaken stick  ), and i have some more mods done since then so maybe i could acutally run right next to one.

You're mistaken.
i was actually surprised myself how well my car performed against that m5
maybe it was due to the fact that his m5 did have that electrical problem as nyquil has stated.

Im mistaken,im a really big BMW fan.I would know, E39 M5 packs a 5.0 littre V8 500 hp NA engine, capable of reaching 60 within 5 seconds.Maybe the guy wasnt even trying or couldnt drive or maybe it was a 530i with a M5 badge,im pretty sure you didnt keep up with him.Maybe it was a E34 M5 wich has a 3.4 litre packing 340HP,but still thats a pretty damn quick car and reaches 60 within 6 seconds or so.

Unfortunately its 4.9L 394 hp V8 with 368 lb-ft of torque. We can never know the reason for the outcome of LM's race unless we know that M5's quater mile times because only the devil knows how much punch LM's car is packing.

Ye i knew that, its just that everyone rounds it off blah blah blah, you know what i mean.E39 M5 quarter mile is registed at low 13's and they reach 60 within 4.8 seconds, but that takes a good driver.I spoke to LM before and he told me his car is in the mid too low 15's.Even with a average driver, the M5 should of walked all over the LM's car.Now maybe he raced the E34 M5 which pumps out 340Hp from an Inline 6 and also has the 6 speed manual like the E39,it reaches 60 within 5.8 seconds and a quarter mile is in the low 14's to high 13's,all depending on the driver. So basically the E34 should beat LM,LM got the head start but the E34 caught up and then slowly started gaining the lead,so im guessing it was probably the E34.Sorry for the long post:yawn:
LM's car pupmps out mid to high 14s, and as far as the US is concerned there is only one package for M5. Thats my info. Btw, I haven't seen a single official 1/4mile time for M5 yet.
P.S. Thats quite a round off:D 100+hp, BMW would love you as a dealer:D
actually theoratically with current mods my car should run mid to low 14's.
but since my last race i was running with a bad fuel regulatore(hopefully, haven't sorted out that prob yet) the times were high 15's

One package, what you mean by that?? There is official 1/4 times in road & track and card and driver.
Quite a round off 100 hp?? Now hows 400-394=100+??
Edit: Heh,i read my old post and i said 500HP by accident, meant 400,sorry for the confusion

I was searching an internet for M5 information and found a site where a guy was running 13.6's. An LT1 caprice/impala ss can do mid 13's with all the bolt-ons and drag radials. Even if LM13's car runs 14's it has a lot of low end torque which is very helpful for street driving. Racing at high rpms on the highway is a completely different story though.

13.6?? He must be an awful driver:rolleyes:
Eh, and you think M3 runs what? 7 sec in 1/4 mile? I don't think so. Dude, if you think they are that much faster, let's see some facts - like links to M3 forums, or something, with lots of M3 people, who actually do know what a 1/4 mile track is, and who ran their cars down it.
I've looked at a message board on this site: http://www.bmwm5.com. It seems that E39 M5's run high 12's - low 13's and put 340-350 rwhp on the dyno. Pretty impressive! The guy who ran 13.6's had an older (E34?) M5.

I never said it runs a 7 sec 1/4 mile
E36 M3=0-60 in 5.6 1/4 mile 14.2
E46 M3=0-60 in 4.7 1/4 mile 13.2
Thats what Road&Track has and Car&Driver also had the similiar numbers.
If you wanna check it out on some BMW forums, check
http://www.dtmpower.net
http://www.bimmermods.com
http://www.maxbimmer.com
Now those are all facts. So now we know for sure what those cars should run, not what some guy says or something.
Thanks.
