View Full Version : bog off the line when hot

sup guys, got an ongoing problem with my L99 9C1... it's not the end of the world, but basically when the car gets hot and/or when it's hot outside, the engine bogs pretty badly when accelerating from a stop. Only when hot. I get on the gas, it responds slowly, and eventually after like 50 ft or so, it'll pick up fine and work okay after that.

To put it in simpler terms, it feels like I'm launching in 2nd gear. EXACTLY like launching in 2nd gear. For the longest time I assumed transmission problems, but I can clearly define it as a bog, not a slip, so I'm not so sure anymore. Someone suggested TPS, which can cause the tranny to do weird things, if the voltage coming from the TPS isn't progressive and smooth. I replaced the TPS, it seems to have gotten a BIT better and overall drivability is smoother... but the bog is still there.

I have no codes remaining on my PCM except for the TCC not locking up, which is a seperate issue I'll deal with later. What could I look into next? I'm still thinking something in the tranny that I don't know of offhand, since the tranny gets worse as it gets hotter too (as it should be, it's very old and worn out out), shifting lazy, etc... but I come to expect that. Any ideas?

Your egr valve might be stuck open.

try a transmission cooler it might just be getting too hot. Mine feels like that when it gets warm too but off a cold start its a beast.

what does the EGR valve do?

EGR recirculates exhaust gases through the intake to lower emissions. It should be only open under certain conditions otherwise it will screw up the air/fuel mixture.

but if it was EGR, would it not throw a code... and will pulling the vacuum line off the EGR and plugging it be a good troubleshooting step?

I should stress that it doesn't stumble, miss, pop, snort, anything... just feels like it's launching in second gear. smooth, but very slow.

hey...... maybe were looking past the obvious...check the air filter it could be dirty...if u got like a k @n filter it might be time for a charge...maybe even a fuel fiter...it doesnt hurt to try.:D
