View Full Version : LM13's new wheels install
Today the tires arrived at our mechanic's shop (and we got the rims a week or so ago), and we are going to install it all today. We'll need to grind the calipers becase they don't exactly fit. So pray for us, or something. If everything goes well expect pictures by tonight. :)
All right! We won! :)
Back spacing turned out to be perfect. I think it was 5.5". We have about 1/4 of an inch clearance between the tires and the frame. Caliper grinding did its thing. We had to take about 1 - 1.5 mm - definetely not any more - for disk to clear caliper. Car looks awsome. Rears are f*cking wide.
Here are some pics we took today. To bad it was already dark by the time we finished. We'll take some more tomorrow.
Side shot of the car. Need to take some more pics during the day.
Ok, now what do you all think? :)
I think lower springs would make this set up look even better.
sweet:)
i can c the fog light behind the grille, too:)
Dude the new wheels on your car looks killer!!! I think you should lower your car a bit, it will bring out the affects of your new wide tires.

More pics, more pics. The wheels look good but take some during the day so we can get the full effect.
The new wheels really do look awesome but I only saw them at night, hope that tommorow I'll meet up with LM and get a full test drive.:D
Sorry guys for not taking any pics yesterday. The weather was really bad. So now we are waiting for the sun to show up :). Today doesn't seem so bad, but still kind of dark.

Looks good!!
Tell me, did your heart start beating fast when you realized how wide those 305's really are? Did you have this thought in your mind?---"Man, those things are not going to fit... they are toooo wide!! Awwwww Maaaaannnnn!!!!!"
I did... but when they were mounted I really had to hold back the grin...
I bet your grin was as wide as those tires when you finally mounted them up!
Congrats!
Here are some more pics. We finally took em during a sunny day (today that is).
This pic should show how wide the rear wheel is.
hey, nice setup.
what did you use for front backspacing?? 4.5"?
and your SURE the back was 5.5"?
thanks.
and have fun w/ those MEATS
The rears are 5.5". Which car do you have? Caprice and Impala have different rear axles. Impala's axle is wider. So the back spacing is going to be different.
i have a 96 caprice 9c1.
looking at those same centerlines, but without the fluting.they are on backorder thru summit though:mad:
front backspacing? 15x8 right? is it 4.5"?
I don't remember the front. It's either 4 or 4.5". LM13 should be able to clear that up.
Also don't forget that the calipers had to be grinded in order for the rims to fit.
yep, got that, but just a little right?
do the rears rub at all now?
i don't hear any rubbing at all, but i've noticed that there were some marks of rubbing, but i've heard of some people just putting the wheels on without grinding and let the wheels do the grinding, the prob is tat those are aluminum wheels, kinda soft :D, i mean i don't mind a little rubing but not all the way.
and the backspacing is 4in for the front according to summit.
i love that setup, and it wasn't that expensive either.
right on.
as soon as i get my exhaust done, i'm going for your setup, different rims, but i'll do the same size in the rear. thanks for the info!:D

Yep... I did the old "let the wheels break in on their own" with my calipers and it worked out great. Ofcourse, I have steels so I want worried...
Meats is sweet!!:D
