well i got my 15x10 rims today, and tried them on without the tires.
the rims have 5.5 backspacing, and fit on pretty well, only one prob the
freaken caliper didn't clear, and it is rubbing on the rim.
i was wondering could i grind the caliper a little to make the rim spin
without any probs, or is that not such a good idea?
any comments are welcome
thanx

That's coz you got a non-disk rear spec wheel. The rims for the rear disk cars have a shallower inside step down than say a regular rally rim. It's mad e to clear the caliper. You can grind away some metal from the caliper to help it clear.

I just hope that won't introduce any safete issues.

I'd say if the wheel is spinning with a little grinding\rubbing, then taking a skosh off is ok. If it's a huge hunk that needs to be taken off, it probably would be a problem but I don't think you could even mount it up or turn it. A friend with an Impala SS changed to 15" snows on rally rims and had some rubbing issues. He got out the angle grinder and took care of it....he did have a lot of backspacing though. YMMV.

Cool then. The wheel does fit, but we hear a grinding sound when it spins. So hopefully a bit of caliper grinding will help us out.

I'm sure you can grind without worrying about the calipers performance. (Within reason, of course!!)

Don't forget to check the rims after a week or so to make sure that the flexing isn't causing rubbing.
