Heres the deal. My girlfriends 98 cavalier has started beeping every time you go over 70. Can't figure out why either. Its not the horn beeping its the little alarm thats suppose to go off when you leave your lights on or the keys in the ignition. We have had the car to a couple of different garages and the only thing they can tell us is not to drive over 70 mph. Has any body else had this problem or even heard of a car acting like this. Any help would be appreciated.

well not offense, but i feel the cavalier is an inferior product. i know this would not help you, but my best suggestion if you want to go over 70 is to get your gf a caprice. they are designed to go fast(hot pursiuts and what not). sorry i couldnt be of more help.
Alex
try a hammer swing in the direction of the beep/buzz youll hit it evenutally
acually i faintly remember there being a little unit that looks like a relay box near the fuse box try replacing/ removing it and dont forget to turn off your lights
Does it happen exactly at 70 every time?
I'm wondering if there is some sort of speed alarm that was originally set up as "off" and somehow got turned "on".
I was looking through my spid translator (service parts identification code definer) and I noticed that some Caprices were apparently equipped something similar -only it was at 85mph.
Obviously not for 9c1's (police cars), but maybe for 9c6's (taxis).
Just a thought.

No offense taken like I said this is my girls car. My personal vehicles include a 74 Nova Hatchback with a stock 350, 800 cfm Holley carb, 400 Tranny, and a 4.11 posi rear end. I also have a 84 F100 with a 429/460 engine, fuel injection,an FmX Tranny, 3.73 gears, and yeah don't forget the nitrous bottle sitting behind the seat. To round things off my daily driver is a 99 Stratus Es. So I'll keep what I have for the time being. A caprice isn't really my style, I have been looking for an early 90's Imapala SS though.

they did not make the impala in the early 90's. 1994 was the first year they made the impala in the 90's, and they are the same car as the caprice

I'm sorry your stupid but wouldn't 94 be the early part of the 90's. Yes they may share the same underpinnings but there is a difference in an Imapala and the Caprice. Granted its not radically different but there is a difference. I may not know alot about newer vehicles but I'm not a complete dofus. I'm sorry if I insulted your "superior" intellect on the subject. Besides when I really when go fast I'm not gonna drive a boat of a car that most ricer cars will blow by anyway. Both the Impala and the Caprice require major mods to really be able to handle. Its one thing to go fast in a straight line but if you can't take the corner whats the use. Even with the police package with the heavier springs and better coil ratios these cars are just not really built to handle well. Don't believe me go ahead and sink a couple a hundred atleast into your suspension and then challenge a stock Honda to a race on a crooked road and just see how much better the smaller lighter car will handle. I'm not endorsing ricer cars I do everything I can to piss those guys off to. And if you don't want to have your arse handed to you by a kid in a forgein car you should really pick a better vehicle than an overbloated whale of a car to sink you money into. :Pissed:  :xeyes:
damn, why fishdude gotta be stupid all the sudden...

 yea...

a couple inches closer to the ground with a sway bar does wonders...
I'm sorry your stupid
Ok, now that's intelligent.
(The pot calling the kettle black.)
If you're going to call someone stupid, you say "you're" stupid lest you show your true level of intelligence.
Having said that, why are you coming to our forum, asking our advice, then insulting our memebers and our choice of car?
Get a grip! Better still, get a command of the English language.
BTW gilsi9ci,
It wasn't fishdude getting crazy, it was mygirlscar.

mygirlscar, you can kiss my "Whale of a car ass!" an LT1 caprice comes w/ 260HP stock. okay thats more horspower than your rice burner will make even after hundreds of dollars in mods. apparently you have never driven or riden in a caprice/impala. the LT1 Impala WILL go 148 MPH stock. you would have to spend hundreds of dollars on your little pussy 2 liter honda to make it go 3/4's that fast. and as far as handling, turning, braking etc goes... again you have never driven one of these cars so you wouldnt know. a simple 1-2 inch lowering of the coil springs will make them handle just as well if not better than your rice burner, also the caprice/impala is about 35% wider than the ricer. wider car= better handling:)
second issue. you get in a wreck in a civic going 100 mph you are prob gonna die. you wreck a caprice at a 100 mph:) you will prob not die. caprice/impalas weight approx. 4000LBS. a stock civic is just under 3000. so in that respect, the caprice/impala, and all B-body cars for that matter are much safer.
if you have anymore to say to me, or have anymore critisims to make about my car, go ahead, i can play this game for a long time.

one more thing. 1994-1996 would be considered the mid-90's no?1990-1993 early 90's no?
also please dont lecture me or try to teach me about my car, and tell me what it can and cant do.
jesus why dont you all just whip our your dicks and a mesuring tape and whoever has the biggest dick wins. i mean DAMN i joined this forum to learn and every other thread is an argument...a smaller front wheel drive honda probably would win in a curvy course BUT our 88 9c1 with a 3 in lowering can take corners on a country road doing 75-100 like its nobodys business...i am bias i like chevys and older model cars just becuase they dont have all the computer controled crap on them...but i am a computer person and i really like the engine managment systems that you can adjust your power curve with the click of a mouse and EFI is preaty cool. but i garentee you i could take you for a ride in my boxy 9c1 through the country but make sure you wear a some huggies or something becuase most people dont expect a 4000 lb car to handle like mine does and when i take that first 90 degree drift going 50 with none of that "e brake" crap you most definently piss yourself.
thats all i have to say about that
P.S. if imports were so much more economical and handled so much better and had such better acceleration dont you think police departments around the country would be demanding hondas with VTECS by now?

Good point!
