View Full Version : Transmisssion Identification
My tranny is slippin bad...it needs a rebuild and I want to bulletproof it! How do you find out what kind of transmission is in the car?
See if this any help:
Transmission Codes (http://www.nastyz28.com/transid.html)
I guess you know I meant to say,
"See if this is of any help".
It's been a long night, can I go home now?
Yeah I think I figured out what I have.. I used the site you gave me and cross refrenced it with this site..
http://www.drivetrain.com/autotranscrossref.html#CHEVROLET
according to drivetrain.com, I have either a a TH700-R4 or an 4L60. Now I checked the description of each on the site you gave me and both of them closely match, but neither of the two mentioned having overdrive, so I'm assuming that since I have OD and is electronicly controlled by the ecu then I should have a 4L80.. what do you think?
According to that website, if it's electronically controlled you add the "E" on the end. I have overdrive and it's electronically controlled and as far as I know I have a 4L60E.
9c1's may have 4L80E's, I don't know -mine's a civilian car.
Yeah, I just checked my spid. I have the 4L60E.
M30 is 4L60E
MD8 is THM 400
Check the decal on the underside of your trunk lid, look in the "M" section and compare it to this list (http://www.capriceclassic.com/spids.html) and you can see what it came with originally.
Hope that helps.
Well I'm pretty sure it's electronically controlled...I have an ecu and I know its plugged into the transmission so that would be my guess.
Sad to say, but my SPID codes have been removed by a previous owner.. I have pulled casting numbers off the transmission is ther any way to id it using them.. I havne't ran across anything on the web for that!
