What would be the correct back spacing for 15 x 10 rims? I was under the impression that 4 inches or something would be right, but now I'm reading that people use between 6 and 5 for rims that wide.

So what's the correct back spacing? Anyone?

If you are going to widen the 9C1 rims, the backspacing should be around 5.5".

The stock BS for the 9c1 rims are 4 1/8". As you probably know, the stock rear rim is pretty well set into the wheelwell so it's possible to stay at 4 1/8" BS and get the 305 in there. I haven't had my guy widen the stock rims yet so I'm using the chevy truck rim to mount the tire. It's a 15x8 with approx. 4 1/8 BS...it still fits in the well and the 305 tire hasn't broken a bead in almost 30k miles. I pull a 5000# trailer and carry an offroad cycle on a hitch rack without a problem with the narrower rim. The best setup would be a 5-5.5" BS for a 15x10 rim though.

Now I'm trying to find rims what will fit the specifications (15 x 10, 5 x 5 bold pattern, 5 - 5.5 back spacing) for a reasonable price. Here is what I found so far:
http://www.rocky-road.com/wheels.html (and they say any side, which can end up being not any size at all)...

If you know of any more sites, please contribute. Thanks.

I found one more site: http://www.weldracing.com. They've got a lot of wheels which match the specs, but they are kind of expensive.

Any of the following will make wheels for you although not the 9c1 version. I believe Pete Paulsen would convert you existing wheels also.

wheel vintiques
coker tire

The last 2 you'd have to do a search on as I don't have the site addy here at home.

This is a very popular company to widen existing wheels to any specs, even larger diameter:

The above companies should be able to make new rims to your specs. I doubt it would be easy to find rims to fit caprice/impala without a custom order.

I say measure your own. I have 15x10's w/ 5.75" backspacing according to the wheel guy... I had to measure my own and got a real custom fit. And our cars differ slightly so what works great on one may look off on another.
