I think I've been dreaming about this thing whole freaking night.

I just must do the conversion one of these days. Does anyone know how much does rebuilt T56 costs? For some reason I thought that manual trannies were cheaper then AUTO. I paid $800 or something of that kind for my remanufactured 4 speed auto tranny. T56 seems to be closer to $2K. I'll find out.

I'm thinking that I can't afford the conversion from http://www.bigfastcar.com/, which comes out to about $5K with installation. So LM13 spoke to the guy who works on our cars locally, and he said that he'll be able to do it.

Now there is another guy, who came up with a cheaper kit. He sells you only one custom made part, and other parts you order from any GM dealer, such as Dal. I'll mail the guy, and ask what the total price comes out to.

Damn, this 6 speed thing is killing me.

The 6speed is the sh**. You can run a steep rear gear and still have mpg. You can find the tranny and possibly a z28 pedal setup at the Carlisle chevy shows during spring and summer. My brother saw a couple for about $600-$800 with pcm and linkage. You could probably find an relatively cheap LS1 to swap in too!

I had a six speed but with a firebird lt1 in a 95 caprice. It had tons of wheel buring power. I learned how to drive a manual on it. But it was tough. The clutch pedal on the kit is hydraulic and very hard to press down. but after a while i got use to it. But it had a fatale illness that we could never figure out. So to the junk yard it went. I still have dreams about how wonderful it was. Some times a tear comes down my eye when i think of how much fun it was, but its not there anymore. Its so great because most people know that a caprice didnt come with a manual and when they hear the manual in it as it shifts the are amazed. Especially other caprice owners. Plus it is very rare.

Damn why didnt you have it fixed?

It was an electrical problem. The optisparks kept burning up every time i drove on the beltway or 95. At first we thought it was a grounding problem. Then we fixed that and it still happened. So i thought it was the computer. But we were never really sure. The firebird engine was placed in a L99 car. And we noticed that the wires werent put in all the right places. But in the end it was costing too much. And my parents wanted me to have a car that was working and it would have been too expensive to have two cars on the insurance for my age.

So did you ever get in touch with that guy? I've got everything from a 95 Firebird from the pedals, to flywheel, the clutch hydraulics...just everything, but to now put it into a 95 Caprice will need a custom or customized crossframe and something for the pedals, but like you were saying, bigfastcar's kit is just too much money for what you're getting.

Is there anyone that maybe just has detailed instructions? I'm trying to do this as cheap as possible, but still be decent, not a real hack job. (a little bit is okay):)

Anyway, I just need more info and I can't find much help out there.

I ended up going with Josh's kit. Here's a full thread T56 (http://forum.4adrive.com/t1829-s.html) and a video here (http://forum.4adrive.com/showthread.php3?s=&threadid=1975&highlight=video).

That's cool, but where can I find these kits cheaper then bigfastcar, or even just parts that I'd need to do the conversion without a kit?

I'm nervous about doing it, i'm doing it myself. I'm mechanically inclinded and do most if not all my own work on my cars (and sometimes others) but as far as customizing...there's where I'll need some help or instructions or parts as it's not a simple r & r deal.

so basically in summary....HELP:D

I was looking for a cheaper way, but I don't think I found it. And I must note that I am NOT mechanically inclined. So I guess I picked the easiest route, which definetly isn't the cheapest.

But you did get a cheaper kit didn't you? From Josh? Is that someone else who makes kits?

Josh is BBHP. It's not cheap. The whole conversion ran me about 4 grand.
