why would you want a 1995? rumor has it that the 96 is a bit better i think it has better compression or something.
but they are basically identical.

wha? i thought the rumor was that 95 is better because of the ODB1 diagnostics (sp?). also, i dont think hes lookin anymore cause he got a 94 about a week ago.

first of all car expert ziggy the 96 came with a different ignition coild, thus giving it a tiny bit better hp ratings.
second i said it was a rumor and i've read on quite a few sites that 96 engine was a little different (improved). such as this on impala ss forum (http://www.impalassforum.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=1&t=000684) (btw check the name of the guy who posted that on the SS forum AutocroSSer aka the walking encyclopedia of the imapal/caprice ss)
the milder cam gave it better power rating, but most of em were lost to the damn OBDII and other emissions shit.
but i see why he was looking for a 95 coz he didn't want to bother with the obd swaps etc.
i misread that and thought that he was just looking for an engine not the car. :p

96 LT1's did have a slightly milder cam for emission reasons. This means that 94-95 LT1 with a hotter cam have a potential to produce more power. There is less chance of misfiring/pinging with a better coil but that can be fixed for about $25 with 94-95 LT1's (MSD blaster coil). OBDII is much harder to work than OBDI. The compression between the engines is the same -- same heads, head gaskets and pistons.

So, how is 96 better???

one has potential to produce more power, the other one already produces more power. and you ask me how is one better then the other?

Dude, what you seem to be missing is that 94 and 95 ones are producing more power, and 96 has potential as you say, not the other way around.

LM13, hotter cams produce more power. What I meant to say is a 94-95 should produce more power than a 96 with the same mods.

exactly, but out of the box which one has more power accodring to the theory just the engine itself, not considering the car.

And the answer would be 94-95!!! Man, bad day today, eh? :) Just re-read it all over again.

94-95 cam responds better to mods. the 96 has higher HP ratings out of the box due to the higher compression.

LM, stop smoking that shit :)

Re-read the responses again. All LT1's (94, 95 and 96) have the same compression (~10.1:1) because they use the same heads, the same head gaskets, the same bore and stroke. Because of the hotter cam, 94 and 95 b-bodies will have slightly more hp on the dyno without any mods. OBDII also helps decrease the numbers slightly.

However, overall there should not be more than 10 fwhp difference between the iron-headed LT1 engines.

Ok, I think LM13 is making fun of us. Even on the slow days he's not as slow as today.
