View Full Version : '94 Stock 9C1 vs '95 Stock Z28
my friend just got a '95 Z28 and we were playing on the highway, from a 50 punch, i could hold him off til 90, then he'd pass me like i was standing still. then we went from a dig, killed him out of the hole, and by 97 mph it was door to door. second time we raced from a dig i killed him out of the hole, even better than the first, i put about a car and a half on him in the first 60ft, we raced til 110, and he was barely ahead of me at that time. I dont think i did too bad at all, considering i'm completely stock with the exception of $15 summit mufflers and resonator deletes.
thats awsome.
chances are you'll beat him in a quarter mile. maybe you one of those lucky folks whose stock 94 runs 14.5's :D
I Gtech'd my car at 14.7@97mph spinning through half of first, so i wouldn't doubt my car can do better. but i'll find out shortly if it really does do that in less than a month (april 1st is opening day at the track. can't wait!)
oh yeah, did i mention i still have a paper air filter :D

95 lt1 w/ 150k miles. I punch it and it moves, a little better than my old CVPI, but it doesn't by any means "roast 'em". The only way I can slip them loose is to floor it around a corner.
I'm pretty sure he's got a 3.23 posi. That would have alot to do with the car launching that well.
A stock 9C1 with an LT1 comes with 3.08 gears.

my bad lol. Did any b-body ever come with 3.23's?
Yes, L99 9C1s came with 3.23s.
Yeah Alex I have 3.23's on the Ole L99.
Well my '94 LT1 civi with posi and 2.93's will break em loose no prob!I just punch it and its spin city! My car has 179,000 on it and im still on my origanal tranny with no rebilds.I haven't even done a tune up to her yet.

You wouldn't suspect the previous owner had the tranny re-done or replaced maybe? That seems like alot of miles for an original 4L60E with no rebuild esp. being paired with an LT1.
Yeah i thought that was kinda fishy too but its true.I would asume that if the tranny was rebuilt or replaced he would of told me to further help him get more money for the car.
When i bought the car the guy thought that the tranny was gonna go cuz he had to shift it manualy. It was nothing but a bad PCM.I replaced the PCM and problem was fixed. The guy told me that if he knew that was the only problem he would of never sold the car lol. This car was also very well taken care of and hardly ever beat.
Wow, 179k is a LOT of miles for a stock transmission.
My car was not that lucky. According to GM dealer records, the first transmission was replaced at 30k. I bought the car with a little over 90k mileage, and the transmission lost reverse at 101k. I got a mild performance rebuild and a higher stall converter. It was fine until I upgraded heads/cam. After a thousand miles and a few high rpm shifts the clutches started to slip. Apparently 4L60E doesn't like 450+ ft/lbs of torque and 6500 rpms shifts. So at 122k miles I rebuilt it again at Freddy Brown Performance with all the performance upgrades possible. So far it feels great (knocking on wood).
Even though hearing stories like yours make you want to stick with the 4L60E transmission, I'll probably upgrade to TH400 (aka Feliks' setup) is something happens to it.
I do feel lucky,Im sure the tranny will go on me sooner or later.
I wish i had the tranny in my car that my friend has in his '94 9C1.
That tranny shifts awesome! He had it rebuilt with titaniam bands
and corvett servos with a shift kit. That tranny is just nasty!
I highly doubt that he'd beat him in the 1/4 mile. 4th Gen Camaro's usually run high 13's to low 14's. Does your friend have an automatic or 6 speed? I agree about out of the hole. With my 95 Z I can't get any traction! Seriously though, I'd believe you getting the hole shot but not in the 1/4 mile, stock for stock.

Camaros do suck to get traction with out of the hole, so I wouldn't doubt that the Caprice would take it up to about 45-50mph, but after that, the Camaro would be GONE in a stock vs. stock shootout.
As far as beating the Camaro in the 1/4 mile, the normal times for the LT1 Z28s in a 1/4 are between 13.90 and 14.30. Most of the "good" Camaros are running in the 14.1s.
