The reason I say You won't believe this, is because I'm not sure that I would. My wife was suprised, and She (occassionally) drives the Caprice.Last sunday, I was driving to Moncks Corner, about 30 Mi. away, to see a friend. I was at a red light. It was one of those deals where two lanes start fading into one after the intersection. I was in the left lane, trying to behave myself, when a pretty nice early 80's Mote SS stopped along side. He started revving His engine, I guess just to make noise because my Caprice is stock. No raceing graphics, Standard Chevy Bowtie hub caps, just like you would have seen it in the showroom. Well, just for kicks, I pooped it into nuteral and put the pedal down about 3/4. I let it wind down, put it in Drive and just sat there. When the light changed, again I put it down 3/4. Not quite enough to spin. The Monte got on it pretty hard himself. Remember, Ive got the 265. I got Him by half a length off the line and stayed there. When I got to 35mph. or so, I gave it full throttle. I couldn' believe it when I started pulling away. Not by a bit. I know He was trying because I could still hear His exaught hollering at me. I thouroughly destroyed Him. It was unreal. At 70mph. the lanes merged so I slowed down. He came up behind me, being very cool. I made my left turn in a few miles. He tooted politely, as if to say "Well done old man". I don' know if he had drive train problems or what, but I'll take it as a kill. Unreal.:D

he probably had the stock 305 in there and not much done to the thing, the good old intake and exhaust. montes are fast, but i'm sure stock 9c1 vs a stock monte race, 9c1 would come out on top.

Early 80's Monte ss is at the least an '83. It was a 15.2 to 15.9 in the quarter car. I had an '86 ss, the same, and did a 15.7 stock. I eventually got it to 14.8 but that was it without spending $$. It would be close to a stock LT1 caprice\impala...unless you have one of those low 14sec stock imp's. Consider your 265 a fast car if the monte was running well.

Thanks NJ9C1.
The monte sounded good, but its hard to tell from just the sound when I'm making some noise myself. I enjoyed the hell out of it though.
My Cap's in excellent shape. My Dad really babied it, took great care of it. I try to do the same. Its got 93k and change, but they were not "hard miles" for the most part. He could put it down when there was a call for it. Usually "those damn Mitsuf*****bitch's" (WWII Navy Vet. HATES Mitsuf******bitch's).

hey, nice. a kill is a kill thats how i see it too. the other day my brother was in the same situation with his 93 caddy deville, but with less room (bout 100 yards). and the contender was a box vic :xeyes: . my brother wasnt payin him no mind, cause we were challenging. he was just laughin at the vic. i told him if he didnt stay on his toes, hell get spanked. but the light was about to change, and the vic started to creep, but my brother didnt. and as soon as the light changed, i heard the vic throw it to the floor....but my brother didnt. he gave it about half way (i could tell). needless to say, the first time we got spanked in his car was by a box vic :Puke: .and a civi too!
