There are a lot of one posters in there selling their wares.

A few forums I frequent already have this rule.

It will keep the buyers safer and forum database cleaner and of course save some bandwidth.

Any thoughts?

I personally think that if we put a min post restriction on sales forum we are going to see a lot of those post appear elsewhere. I don't think that those people posting their sales notes really isn't a problem.

But maybe I need to be convinced otherwise. What does everyone else think?

Yeah, let 'em post. Why not?

I visit computer forums, and there is an issue with "trolls", which is what we call those who sign up at various forums to sell items that are not in their possession, or to scam folks in other ways.

We have found that having a 100 post count seems to eliminate a lot of this.

Some Trolls who are persistent, will "spam post" to 100 posts. If there is evidence of "spam posting", their post count is reset to 0, and They are given a warning.

There are designated "troll hunters" who seek out the trolls, and take action.

One forum That uses this policy has over 20,000 members, and has never had one incident of a fellow member getting ripped off.

The 100 post count goes hand in hand with other efforts , of course.

Another thing they do is, "Item verification", which simply means you must submit a pic of the actual item , with something like the forum name and your user name on a piece of paper, and set near or on the item for sale.

Many of the rules are strict at these computer forums, but it works..

Just a few ideas based on my experience with other types of forums....

I think DR has a point, we don't want to scare or run anyone off.

But to also agree with stompah's point, though, we need to be aware of things posted in that area.

One way to do that is to look at the posters post count. If he only has one or two posts to his name, he's just here to sell stuff.

I kinda got lost in that part about the trolls. Are they waiting under the bridge or are we going to hunt them? Should I bring my level 98 Wizar Toad or my level6 Unicorn with dexterity fo 1billion. OK, sry bout that, i just like to make fun og RPGs, and the idea of trolls was interesting.

Serious now... I don't think it is an issue with people post for sale parts. The only concern is that someone here will get ripped-off, and if that happens, the admin guys can block him or something, but we don't need to block everyone who doesn't have 100 posts from selling their shit. It took me like 8 months to get 100 posts, granted i haven't wanted to sell anything, but it is just an example that post numbers don't say a whole lot about the user.

There are pros and cons to rules of this nature. That is how it was done at one forum, which seems to have their act together, ...or as together as it gets with as many members they have.

Their other rules are much stricter than here, and for some folks...that's too much. I don't mind a place with strict rules, and so on, but it is always a relief to come to a more relaxed environment like 4aDrive.

I don't suggest we change the rules here to match a huge forum, with a different theme, format, and goal.

This is a fairly small auto forum, and it's an easy welcoming environment. some folks like it this way. I guess the rule here would be...May the buyer beware. and I always suggest that anywhere, so, enjoy.

On this computer forum, since some pc parts are expensive, and easy to steal, and there are so many members...it makes a great environment for scams to be placed. The folks who do this, are also scamming folks on auctions and news paper ads, and so on, and for some reason, those who hunt them down, and take legal action against them, ....have chosen to nickname them...trolls. thus, the reference..trolls, and troll hunters.

there are a lot of everyday things like profanity, and nudity that I see here, as well as other things not tolerated on some other forums, and ...once again.... they have their reasons and so on. most of the strictest rules they had were due to the fact that they are a "G" forums, so, even computer geek kids are members, and they didn't want anyone offended in any way...the other main reason was because a large number of their members are from around the world, and their feeling were of concern as well.

I appologise if I came off like they had the forums run the way a forum was supposed to be run... They are in no way, an example of how things are here. This forum is claiming to be a virtual auto hangout, and when I hang out with my friends, I don't want all the rules, and censorship... it's a hangout.

Don't change this forum on my word, unless you want to allow more time for folks to correct their spelling errors.... and maybe clean up any sold items in the classifieds, or items no longer for sale..... he he he .... :D

cooringa, I forgot to add, that when approached by a troll....a quick hard punch in the head usually does the trick. They don't want your blood..they hit you where it hurts most.....in the wallet..... he he he

If that all fails, Flatter them...they love that.

Don't confuse a troll with a gnome. Gnomes are sneaky, and they will carve your heart out if given a chance. They have also been known to eat lawn bugs....I think..

any other creature you need help with? I have all the home remedies. ;)

do you use the same name there? I originally went there for some pc advice, and a couple years later, and a few grand or so later...I realized I was hooked.

I'm presently on water. chevy heater core, 120mm y.s.tech 130cfm, eheim 1250, D-Tec TC-4, cooling my Mobile Athlon XP2500. I get a max of 2818mhz out of this chip.

At 2500mhz, I can run passive on the rad.

anyways....small world, huh?

I used to frequent more than a few pc forums, and O/C was the one I fequented the most.

Glad to see we share more interests... :D

I agree with a post count. There are a lot of fraud going on throughout the net. Maybe this would curtail some of it.

well i dont think we have it bad enough here that we should limit it. i mean if i wanted to go sell my car on a thunderbird board and i just sign up and than need 100posts before i can make a thread to sell?

As far as I know, there hasn't been a problem.
If someone has a Caprice, or parts there of, but not really an enthusiest, they should be able to find us and sell thier stuff if they want to.
Mabey they inherited a '95 from Grand Pa or something, and are actually a ricer.
Granted, that would be a gross injustice of fate, but it could happen.

Count me in on that forum too. I haven't posted there in a long time though. Stompah, you actually referred me to this forum.

I see one possible problem with the post count quota: lurkers. I've been lurking on this forum for quite a while and I don't post a lot. Maybe a rule like 100 posts or member for such and such amount of time?
