Some more about the system.

I'm thinking that I'll have to put the computer right into the console. I want to put several of the drives right into the console. So I'll have easy access to the CD-ROM, and creative labs sound card. I was thinking they only come in white, and wanted to paint one, but I just found out that it comes in black too (pic attached).

So that will be a part of the console too. I'm just wondering if there are computer cases small enough to fit in the console.

All the audio will be hooked up to the car stereo system through the auxilary input in the head unit. That I can listen to mp3's, or I'll have input option through the sound card on the console to hook other devices up.

Err, thanks for listening. :)

You don't really need to place a computer into a console.

Dude, if you post something, at least elaborate on it.

What do u mean I don't need to put the computer into the console? If you think that I can put CD-ROM drive in the console, and the computer in the trunk, then you aren't right. There is a limit to the length of those wires (and a pretty small one too). The reason is that signal weekens significantly, and data becomes useless. The limit is about 1 meter.

U can put in an external cdrom drive connected via usb for example. There's no limit to the length of a usb cable, is there? I'm not sure how fast those things can read though.

USB isn't a very good option for this. First of all I want my cd rom connected to the sound card so it could play audio CDs - which I don't think you can do with an external drive.

I'm not sure about USB cables length limit. I'm pretty positive about those internal ones (whatever their name is).

Maybe I should set up a computer network inside my car, and connect everything with ethernet cables :D. (I'm kidding for those who didn't understand yet :)).

hm, network you say huh?
Will this be peer-to-peer or better yet
Client-server, if you got the extra cash go with Novell.
when you want to down the server for upgrades type "DOWN"
Or better yet go wireless bloototh versus RJ45
On a serious note that sounds like a very interesting idea.
(No, not the network or anything, having a MP3 player is)

You can buy a very small pc case and install it under the passenger's front seat, that way your cd-rom in console will be one meter away.

I heard some external cdrom drives convert audio cd data to digital format and output it through the same cable. Others have an audio output jack that you can connect to ur sound card with a miniplug cable. Btw, is there a limit on how long a scisi cable can be?

Dude, you need the soon to be new Tablet PC, read about it at http://www.cnn.com/2001/TECH/ptech/11/11/comdex.gates.keynote/index.html

http://www.wacom.com/lcdtablets/index.cfm

This is a little more versatile and is available at present. On the negative side, mad expensive. I highly recommend Wacom though. I own a 4x5 Intuos tablet, and it's the best hardware design I have ever seen.

...btw, I looked through their site, and holy crap, Painter 7 is out! Gotta search for some warez now:)
For those who don't know, Painter is an excellent 2D ruster graphix proggie, with full support for pressure-and-tilt-sensitive drawing tablets. It was started by Fractal Design, then purchased by Metacreations. Then Metacreations disappeared and Painter was bought by Corell. Corell was apparently not a good sponsor, since all that happened to Painter is a pathetic little update to plug-in filters. Now it's owned by Procreate, and v7 is out. I'll tell u how good it is when I get me a warezed copy:-D

Sag you should try following the links and reading the destination articles before making such irrelevant posts. First, I wasn't talking about hardware for artists but rather a real PC size of a legal paper which is called "Tablet PC" and will operate a version of WinXP.

Second, take the discussion of of pirated software to another forum other than 4aDrive's.

versatile (n.): flexible, easy to integrate
I know what a Tablet PC is. U don't need to post pictures and diagrams, and explanations of the words "tablet" and "PC" either. The Tablet PC, however, is not very versatile, since it's not a component computer. It's not easy to upgrade or integrate with components and peripherals. And its lack of a CD-ROM drive makes it a little difficult to play audio CDs. The thing I'm talking about, Wacom Cintiq, is just a monitor + drawing tablet. It connects to a regular PC, Mac, SGI, or Sun's monitor out port and usb port (SGIs and Suns require an adapter). Thus, you have the advantage of choosing or making the computer by urself, and interfacing it with anything your heart desires. I also can't think of a reason why anyone would want to put WinXP in their car.

Dude... why do u keep doing this?

Sag, those things you speak about. They can be used as monitors? Are they expensive?

Do I understand right that you can easily simulate mouse clicks by touching the screen with a finger? That would be nice.

EliGC

First of all Sag, the Tablet PC pictured above has a CD-Rom drive and a spanking 10gig HD.

Second, freedom of speech only is free only when you're not violating any laws. WAREZ, is pirated software and any discussion about it is not going to be tolerated in this forum since its illegal to posses pirated software and you're violating a number of copyright laws. So as I said again, please take the discussion about warez to another forum and do not post reviews of any pirated software.

I'm not sure it's the same with all the models, but I would guess that you have to use the included pen, and not your finger. That's the way mine works. The pen is not just a piece of plastic, but an electronic device, which has a serial number built in for identification, and I assume, somehow reflects the magnetic waves from the drawing tablet (it doesn't have a cord or a battery). The tablet sees the pen even when it is not making contact, at about 1cm clearance. Touching the tablet with the pen simulates a click.

Hmm. Sounds peachy. Won't it be kinda hard to write on it while the CD is spinning though? Unless they invent an ultra-stable CD-ROM or something.

What they violate is their problem as long as it doesn't involve this forum, your violations involve the forum and that is why its my resposobility to interfere.
